I know I have a Trk L start (it's on the wiring diagram) that's supposed to be charging the chassis batteries and the inverter (working fine) does the house batteries. Someone said in a previous thread it is located in the electrical bay behind a panel. I posted a pic of the bay and there are numerous closed panels and was wondering if someone knows which one to pull off. I have continuous power at the site but pulled the chassis batteries to bring home and fully charge them but need them back in the unit so I can exercise the motor and generator monthly during winter. I may just have to do a two bank charger to correct this. Thanks! __________________ |

It's inside that black metal box on the upper right of your photo with the 12V breakers and light switch, etc. on it. Remove the screws holding on the inside face (with the light fixture on it) for access. __________________ 2005 Winnebago Vectra 36RD |

Junior Member Winnebago Owners Club Join Date: Apr 2004 Posts: 6 | Thanks for the quick replies. I looked at that wiring diagram last week and for the life of me couldn't find where they located it. When I get up to my camp sometime in the next week I'll pull that cover and start taking some readings. I have a feeling it's a solenoid issue. Will keep you all posted on progress. __________________ |

When you shut down your house batteries at the vertical panel next to your co-pilot, that signal is sent to that right hand solenoid. Now, the Trik-L-Start should be in between those two solenoids. That would make it way easy to wire it because, both battery systems are within a few inches of each other. Let us know how things turn out. There's been tons of threads on the malfunctioning of that Trombetta dual duty solenoid (the one on the left). It can, in many cases, actually ACTUATE and you will hear and even feel the click, if you've got your fingers on it when the Auxiliary Battery Boost switch is pushed on the dash. But, that does not mean it's working correctly. Over the years, carbon can foul up the actual contacts inside that solenoid and, when that happens, very little juice can go through it, even though it's functioning correctly in the ON or OFF mode. A volt ohm meter is needed to check certain posts on it, to determine the power at it before the engine is started and after. If you find that, that solenoid is bad, there is a replacement that has SILVER contacts in it that will last considerably longer than the original. BY the way, mine lasted for 11 years before it finally gave up the ghost. Good luck on your findings. By the way, you'll also see two pics of where I put the Trik-L-Start on my unit because, mine's an '04 and Winne/Itasca didn't install them in that year. __________________ |

A bad ground connection was the source of out Trek-L-Start failure. As you can see in the photo, I relocated it to the back wall of the electrical compartment and created a better ground connection. Problem solved. Also, the Trip-L-Start is energized and applying a trickle charge to the chassis batteries onlywhen the house 12v system is ON.

Junior Member Winnebago Owners Club Join Date: Apr 2004 Posts: 6 | No Trik L Start Well I went up to take off the panel and as seen in the photo no evidence of a trik l start and it's a 2006 and on the wiring diagram. Anyways I did find my Guest two bank charger I had from a bass boat years ago and put it on the chassis batteries so that will work for winter as the flakes are about to fall tomorrow. Figure I'll fiddle with it in the spring when it warms up. Thanks for your help! __________________ |

Here's the Trik-L-Start website if you decide you'd like to add one. Btw, the current version now charges at 10A which I think is about twice what the original ones did. I've been very happy with the one I added to my 2005 Vectra many years ago. I've attached the Winnebago Service Tip on installing the Trik-L-Start, in case that's helpful. __________________ 2005 Winnebago Vectra 36RD |

I wonder how many others in the '06 era don't but yet Winne says that's when the diesel units started having them installed. Maybe your two were way early in the production line-up and just didn't get the memo! __________________ |
